The Labour Party
The Labour party today is the result of the merger, in February of 1999, of the two main parties on the left in Ireland - Labour and Democratic Left. Pat Rabbitte, TD is the leader of the Labour Party.
The four values on which the party's policies are founded are Freedom, Equality, Community and Democracy.
Labour stands for the creation of an inclusive Irish society and seeks a more equal distribution of wealth and power in Ireland and throughout the world. Labour believes in democratic empowerment and that democracy is fundamental to the concept of giving people the power to shape their own lives.
The Labour party is a member of the Socialist International and of the Party of European Socialists.
